Acupuncture is a form a oriental medicine that utilises very fine needles to regulate the flow of blood and energy within the body. Acupuncture is painless and completely hygienic. The needles used are so fine that you won't even feel them being inserted. There are virtually no side effects to treatment and the majority of patients say that they find it a relaxing and pleasant experience..

As a form of holistic medicine acupuncture utilese points that are often not near where the pain is being experienced. At Wakefield Acupuncture we generally use acupuncture systems that rely heavily on points in the lower arms and legs and for most patients these will be the main areas in which needles are inserted.

Frequently the aim with acupuncture is to stimulate the body's own healing and immune systems. For the majority of patients we do not believe that it is necessary to keep receiving treatment in order to stop the problem from returning once you are better.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese tradition of inserting fine needles in to specific points in channels along the body according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

TCM is based on the theory of Qi, the energy that flows through the body. Illness can be seen as a dysfunction of the body's ability to maintain the smooth flow of Qi and so the body becomes unbalanced. Acupuncture aims to treat the person as a whole and restore the natural balance between physical and emotional.

Acupuncture is a system of healing that has been practiced in china for thousands of years.
