What Is Acupuncture?

Traditional acupuncture helps to balance the body's energies by working on all aspects of well being physical, mental and emotional. In Acupuncture our health is dependent on the smooth flow of energy within twelve defined channels. This energy is known as qi. The patterns in which the body's energies flow can be affected by a number of factors. These factors can include: emotional stress, poor diet, hereditary factors, infections and trauma.

Acupuncture Works:

Acupuncture has been used in China forover 3000 years and is used alongside Western Medicine in Chinese hospitals. More recently people are turning to Acupuncture to help support Western medical treatments or when Western medicine is unable to help. Acupuncture is widely accepted within the UK. According to a recent NHS report, over two million people in the UK seek acupuncture treatment each year.

Who Has Acupuncture?

Most people come to acupuncture for help with a particular symptom, condition or because they are feeling generally unwell or stressed. Acupuncture is considered safe for all ages and can be used safely along side conventional Western medical treatments.

What Happens During Treatment?

During your initial consultation you will be asked about your current symptoms and health and what treatment you have had or are receiving. A detailed medical history will be taken were we will explore all areas of your health including your diet and digestive system, sleep patterns, emotional state, energy levels, exercise and family history. Your pulses on both wrists will be taken and your tongue will be looked at. This will add to the information you have given during the consultation process.

The acupuncture points used may not always be close to the area your are experiencing your problems this is normal and will depend on your Chinese medical diagnosis. For example if your are suffering from migraines points on the foot and wrist may be selected.
