What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is an ancient medical system which dates back to around 2,500 years ago in China. Chinese physicians, over the years have evolved an intricate healing process whichinfluences the body's own energy known as "Qi" by inserting fine needles directly into specific acupuncture points. This stimulates the flow of energy which can produce positive change by clearing any obstruction blocking its pathway and strengthening its movement.
I have lived in Berkhamsted for over 25 years and have 4 grown up children. I work as a midwife in Oxford carrying out research for the University into problems of pregnancy such as high bloodpressure and small babies. As a clinical midwife many of the women who I looked after had used acupuncture prior to and / or during their pregnancies. I was so impressed by the effect acupuncture had on these women that it prompted me to find out more, and ultimately I decided to learn acupuncture myself.
I am graduate of the Collage of Integrated Chinese medicine in Reading, gaining a BSc (Hons) degree in Acupuncture, and receiving a Licentiate in Acupuncture, after a 4 year course in both TraditionalChinese medicine, which initially concentrates on signs and symptoms, and 5 Element Chinese medicine, which approaches healing from the emotional and spiritual aspect. I discovered how effective acupuncture is for myself while working as an Occupational Therapist back in 1989.
