She brings extensive clinical knowledge and experience to her practice and understands the significance and benefits of blending both Eastern and Western approaches in maintaining health. She is experienced in treating a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal, headaches and migraines, respiratory, digestive, gynaecological, endocrine and autoimmune disorders.

Her passion and special interest is in the field of Women’s Health, which includes general women’s health, gynaecology, fertility, pregnancy and the menopause. In this field she has received postgraduate training in Contemporary Acupuncture for Women’s Health, Reproductive Health, Pregnancy, Labour and Childbirth and Postpartum Care. She has studied with experts in this field, including Debra Betts, Jani White, and Zita West. From a Western Medical Acupuncture perspective she has studied with Jennie Longbottom, and attended seminars with Dr. David Carr, Researcher and Lecturer in Maternal and Foetal Medicine. For Fertilty Awareness Alex studied The Billings Ovulation Method with Fertility Care Scotland and for problems after treatment for cancer she studied myofascial release post mastectomy with Willi Fourie.

Before founding Acupuncture for Women, Alex worked initially in the NHS as a physiotherapist treating a wide range of conditions before finally working for ten years with the Breast Care Team treating post-mastectomy complications and helping with the side effects of cancer treatment with the use of acupuncture. She has experience as a lymphoedema key worker and in myofacial release post mastectomy. Throughout this time she maintained a busy private acupuncture practice which now focuses on the health and well-being of women.

Acupuncture for Cancer Support:

Whilst conventional cancer services are widely available there is an increasing number of patients drawn to complementary therapies for help in the management of many of the side effects of treatment.

Modern research into acupuncture has found it to be effective in relieving the nausea and vomiting of chemotherapy treatment, the tiredness associated with chemotherapy and also the pain which can sometimes occur with cancer. It can also be effective in the treatment of hormone therapy induced hot sweats. As well as helping to reduce these symptoms, patients report both an improvement in their general well-being and the benefit of having on-going support that the acupuncture treatment provides

For ten years Alex worked closely with the Breast Care Team in NHS Ayrshire and Arran, during which time she used both acupuncture and Myofascial Release techniques with women recovering from breast cancer and who were experiencing side effects of treatment or pain or restriction post breast surgery.
