Life Acupuncture

Originating in China, acupuncture forms a part of traditional Chinese medicine; a healthcare system based on ancient principles which have developed over the last 2,500 years. The basis of diagnosis and treatment in Chinese medicine is that the mind and body should be in perfect balance and thereby focusing on the entire person.

Acupuncture is a gentle and effective treatment, widely used and accepted all over the world. Traditional acupuncturists believe that illness and pain occur when the body’s qi, or vital energy is unable to flow freely. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury, are among the most common. The insertion of very fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, seeks to re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance and trigger the body’s natural healing response.

From a Western medical point of view, acupuncture is thought to stimulate the nervous system, influencing the production of hormones and neurotransmitters. The resulting changes are thought to activate the body’s self-regulating homeostatic systems, stimulating its natural healing abilities and thereby promoting physical and emotional well-being.

What can Acupuncture help with?

A growing body of evidence-based clinical research shows that traditional acupuncture is considered to be a safe and effective form of treatment for a wide range of common health problems. It can be used: to treat acute and chronic degenerative conditions, for pain relief and symptom management, infertility, chemical dependency as well as mental and emotional well being.

For further information on health conditions that can benefit from acupuncture please go to www.acupuncture.org.uk. Please note that conditions listed are not exhaustive, if you are unable to find information relating to your own health condition please feel free to contact me to discuss it.

While acupuncture can be very effective for the restoration of health, it is also often used as a preventive measure to strengthen the constitution and promote general well-being.
